On a dark and dreary night, there is only one true light that shines in the deep wood of Lansvania. Some say it is the stars, the moon, a distant planet shining through the atmosphere, but it is none of these things. Light is usually known as a bringer of good, but the light of Lansvania is nothing of the sort. It is a demon, an evil spirit, to come in contact with it is almost cetain death. In Lansvania they call it Phantamo, which is translated to "Life Taker" in the nations native language.
Its only purpose is to suck the life out of anything with life, It lures you in with its mystical light, and all at once engulfs you with its giant mouth, and once it is done, your body will be nothing but an empty shell of your former self. It is daughter of moon and evil, and sister of darkness. This merciless creature hovers above the trees of the Lansvania forest, striking fear among the villagers. And although its victims seem random, they are nothing of the sort. It has a hidden talent of finding the people with the most joy in their hearts, in all its evil, enjoys taking these lives most of all.One of the most sorrowfull deaths was when a young spriteful girl by the name of Natalia, who was taken by the beast. A legend that has been told time and time again by the village folk to warn the children of this demon.
The legend goes like this:
Natalia was smiled upon by all of her peers, she was a brilliant girl with an incredibly bright future. She was at the top of her class, and was one of the kindest and caring people know in Lansvania. She had a small frame and her eyes were always sparkling with light. They twinkled brighter than the sun, and you couldn't help but smile when you saw her. She was filled with life, and joy, and kindness and would help anyone in need. Although, Natalia did have one fault. She was never scared.
One day, after hearing of this strange creature of death and light, Natalia though it would be in her best interest to confront the beast. She said she wanted to ask it why it was terrorizing their village. She wanted to stop the beast from killing any more living creatures. So, on one night, when the stars weren't shining, and the moon was nowhere in sight, she went out in search of the beast. The air was heavy, and a slight mist blanketed the forest. She traveled through the tangled wood, dodging spider webs on her way. It was incredibly dark, and occasionally she would trip while trying to travel though the forest. She could hardly see her hand in front of her face when finally she saw it. A bright , moaning light hovering in the distance. "This is it" she murmured, pushing through some bramble, and pursued the light. She followed the light into a cave, stalactite hung from the ceiling, and she heard the occasional dip-drop as she slowly walked through the cave. When she finally saw the beast she was startled. It was huge, and its light shined like a billion dazzling suns. Heat eminated from its rays, it warmed her cool skin, and a prick of sweat dropped from her forehead.
The creature grumbled, at the sight of her. It then cooned the words, "Ive been waiting for you Natalia..."
"you have?" she replied, slightly surprised.
"Yes, I knew I had to have you when I first laid my eyes on you. The joy in your heart was to much for me to bear..." Phantoma began to tremble as it spoke," You came to ask me why I take the souls of those who are happy? Vey well, I shall tell you. I too, long ago was happy. My father, the moon, raised me from day. He thought me the ways of the good, I would help him smooth and stir the ocean. He would teach me all the ways of the world, how every creature is connected. I loved him more than anything in sight. But my mother, Evil, wanted me back. She cast me upon this wretched earth, taking me away from my beloved father and in the heavens where I belong. She has trapped me in this border of Lansvania, like a caged animal. I have learned over my years that happiness makes you glow, I hope that if I glow bright enough one day my father will see me and help me to return to him. You may see my reasoning or you may not, and I apologize that I must take your happiness. But I do believe you could be my final soul to take. Your happiness glows brighter than any soul before you, and I promise to you I will take it as gently as possible."
Natalia, was deeply touched by this poor creatures story, being the kind person she is."Okay, I do see your reasoning, I will let you take me."
"Phantoma chuckled, and enveloped Natalia in its rays of light, I forgot to mention a couple things, Natalia, I need the souls I take to accept my taking them, and I don't just take souls to return to my father. I do it because it's fun."
